What I love is how Rain Makes a Farm subtly weaves together valuable lessons about caring for animals, understanding where our food comes from, and the importance of hard work and cooperation on a farm all told through the eyes of a dog!

This is a beautifully conceived piece of children’s literature with numerous life lessons (love of animals, agricultural science, conservation, sustainability, etc) included in its spoonful of sugar. The author’s use of “rare words” in easy to grasp contexts also makes learning new words simple for new readers and the illustrations are wonderful. This is definitely a children’s author to keep an eye on and his work makes a great addition to any children’s library collection.

As a parent to an 18-month-old, I’m always looking for ways to entertain him that also support his development, and that we can both enjoy. This book definitely checks those boxes! It delivers thoughtful messages through a wonderful story, and while he doesn’t fully understand the words yet, my son absolutely loves the illustrations. This one will be in regular rotation during our reading time. I’m looking forward to more from this author!

I love how many teaching points are made so easily in this book. From learning that dandelions are edible, to each animal having a specific job on a homestead.. The connection between Rain and her farm is incredibly heart warming! She clearly loves and engages with all of the creatures she is in charge of, right down to her plants. If you are looking for a wholesome book that you may also enjoy learning from, this is the one!
